How I can help

Most people come to me in one of a few situations. Here's what each one usually involves.

Turning 65

We map out what to do and when. If you're still working and have employer coverage, we look at whether to take Part B now or delay it, and how to avoid a penalty that follows you for life.

Retiring or losing coverage

Leaving an employer plan, moving into the area, or losing coverage mid-year usually opens a special enrollment window. These have deadlines, and missing one is expensive.

Already on Medicare

Plans change every January — premiums, drug lists, networks. Once a year we check your plan against your actual doctors and prescriptions and decide whether to move or stay.

Veterans

VA coverage and Medicare do different jobs. We look at how they work together, what happens if you need care outside the VA, and what's worth carrying alongside it.

Retired Texas educators

If you're weighing TRS-Care against other options, we compare them side by side. Sometimes the answer is that what you have is already the better deal.

Helping a parent

Adult children are welcome at every appointment, and often they're the ones keeping the list of doctors and prescriptions. Bring them.

What an appointment looks like

Where we meet

Your kitchen table, a meeting room at your library, or by phone or video — whichever is easiest for you. I come to you. Plan on about an hour.

What we go through

Your doctors, your prescriptions, how much you travel, and what you're paying now. Then your options side by side, with the trade-offs in each direction.

What to bring

  • Your Medicare card, if you have one
  • A list of prescriptions, with doses
  • Your doctors and preferred hospital
  • Your current plan information
  • Your questions, written down

There's never a charge for my help. Insurance companies pay agents directly, and the premium is the same whether you enroll through an agent, online, or by calling the company yourself. If what you already have is the best fit, I'll tell you that.

Not sure where to start?

Call and ask one question, or sit down for an hour and go through the whole thing. Either is fine, and neither costs you anything.
